Gideon Aroni is a passionate filmmaker and actor who started making films when he was four years old and started acting professionally when he was 11. Since then Gideon has appeared on the stage in professional musicals, opera and a children’s TV series called Your Skitting Me. He has made a range of drama and documentary short films, as well as a feature (“Drifting Billy”) which was a finalist in the Melbourne Lift Off Film Festival. Gideon has also crewed on a range of productions as an Assistant Director, including an Australian feature set for release in 2023 and an ABC series. Gideon has also written four feature screenplays, one of which is currently in production. He is currently studying film and television at Swinburne University and will graduate in 2022.
Amelia is an emerging filmmaker, specialising in producing, writing, and directing. Since 2017, Amelia has cultivated a name for herself as a passionate and driven individual who works tirelessly to ensure that every vision she works towards, be it her own or her fellow creatives’, comes to fruition. She has worked on a range of content, ranging from short films, music videos, independent short documentaries, television programs (notably Ch31 and Ch10), and independent feature films. When Gideon reached out to Amelia to work on Playback, the challenge of a short period film set in 1930s Hollywood was enticing and she knew she had to jump onto this project. Its narrative core still resonates with the present day and is a worthy addition to the fight for gender equality in the arts, and in every industry globally.
Hey! My name’s Jackson and I’m the cinematographer for Playback. I’ve been lucky enough to explore a myriad of visual styles throughout the past 4 years across a range of music videos, narrative films and documentaries, one of which was screened at The Astor as part of the St Kilda Short Film Festival's. I was originally drawn to Playback through its unique take on the classic Hollywood system and strong, well written characters. Throughout the production of Playback I've been keen to continue exploring the film's themes, setting and storyline through a distinct, modern visual style.
Hey Everyone! My name is Emily and I’m the Production Designer for Playback! I have a passion for all things production and costume design and I am super excited to construct this immersive world of the film. When Gideon came to us with the challenge of creating this super engaging world of a female editor in the 1930’s I jumped at the chance and I can’t wait to employ those traditional elements of the 1930s, in the visual aesthetic of the film as well as adding modern touches of colour and light to highlight the characters emotional journey.

Hey, I'm Hamish, I'm the sound designer for Playback. A lot of my interests in filmmaking are mostly involved in the onset production of the film, within the camera department, and usually in the lighting department. However, I do also have experience doing sound design and am excited to take on this more post-production-heavy role and make something that sounds fantastic.
Hello! I’m Eloise and I am the editor for Playback. I have a great passion for editing and all things post-production, so I am honoured to be working on a project that celebrates editing, especially for female editors. Women have such a rich history in the editing department of filmmaking, and it is so exciting to get to explore this in my work. My experience with editing has been through a variety of different styles of short films, documentaries, and music videos, and I cannot wait to bring such an important story about female editors to life through the art of the cut.
